이 (This) – 그 (That) – 저 (That)
Like in English, we have 이 (This), 그 (That) and 저 (That), and depending on where the object is located relative to the speaker and listener, we use 이 그 저.
이 = “This” this grammar point is used when the object is closer to the speaker than the listener.
그 = “That” this grammar point is used when the object is closer to the listener that the speaker.
저 = “That” Although in English we just use that for 그 and 저, in Korean they have added a rule. We use 저 when an object is equally away from the speaker and the listener, strictly speaking.
Example of Korean grammar point 이/그/저 this/that/that:
이 것은 뭐요? = What is this thing?
그 음식을 매와요? = Is that food hot?
저게 무슨 영화예요? = What kind of movie is that?
저 여자는 진짜 예쁩니다. = That girl over there is really beautiful.
