이 (This) – 그 (That) – 저 (That)

 

Like in English, we have (This), (That) and (That), and depending on where the object is located relative to the speaker and listener, we use 이 그 저.

= “This” this grammar point is used when the object is closer to the speaker than the listener.

= “That” this grammar point is used when the object is closer to the listener that the speaker.

= “That” Although in English we just use that for 그 and  저, in Korean they have added a rule. We use when an object is equally away from the speaker and the listener, strictly speaking.

뭐요? = What is this thing?

음식 매와요? = Is that food hot?

무슨 영화예요? = What kind of movie is that?

여자 진짜 예쁩니다. = That girl over there is really beautiful.
